Jill sitting on chicory bathtub (with taxi in background), 6-2-12, reduced in sizeJill Belli, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of English at New York City College of Technology, CUNY (City University of New York). My interdisciplinary research focuses on utopian studies, positive psychology, happiness studies, writing studies, digital humanities, education, and pedagogy. I’m working on a book manuscript, Pedagogies of Happiness, about happiness and well-being in education, and have published on emotions and affect in Digital Culture & Society and Composition Forum.

I’m a founding member and developer of the Writing Studies Tree, a digital humanities project creating an open-access, interactive academic genealogy for the field of writing studies (related articles have been published in Kairos: A Journal of Rhetoric, Technology, and Pedagogy and The Research Index Exchange). I also serve on the Steering Committee, the Teaching Committee, and as the web developer for the Society for Utopian Studies. From 2014-2020, I was Co-Director of the OpenLab, City Tech’s open-source digital platform for teaching, learning, and collaborating.

Beyond academia, I enjoy practicing yoga, watching hockey, playing violin with the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra, traveling the world, science fiction, hiking, horror movies, Himalayan food, and chatting with interesting folks about interesting things … please do reach out if you’d like to connect and/or collaborate!
